$54,000 Raised at 12th South African Film Festival Canada

Hundreds of viewers across Canada joined virtually and in-person for the South African Film Festival (SAFF) Canada 2022. The festival raised over $54,000 this year, and all proceeds are supporting Education without Borders’ (EwB’s) educational programs in South Africa and Canada. SAFF Canada is a nonprofit festival with a heart, and is 100% organized by volunteers, who live across the country.

The film festival streamed five feature films, eight documentaries, and eight shorts between November 4 and 14th, 2022. On November 3rd, SAFF hosted a highly successful opening gala screening of Blind Ambition in Vancouver, presented in conjunction with LevelFILM, Simon Fraser University (Cultural Partner), and Brand South Africa (Presenting Partner). The films selected for the festival both entertain and inform as they explore the culture, history and politics of South Africa and the region. People’s Choice Awards During the festival viewers also had an opportunity to rate the films they watched. We are pleased to announce the top films in each category, as selected by our audience. An honourable mention goes to Act of Defiance, our 2018 Feature Film winner, as it once again was #1 favourite overall. Thank you to our viewers who voted, and congratulations to the top films.
