Mzwa, a dedicated volunteer and education advocate based in British Columbia, recently completed a challenge—walking 100,000 steps in a single day on July 19, 2025. The effort was part of his “100,000 Steps for Education” fundraising challenge to raise C$1,000 for Education without Borders (EwB), an organization supporting educational programs in South Africa, Canada and Zimbabwe. Not only did Mzwa complete the physical challenge, but he also surpassed his fundraising goal, thanks to generous support from his community. Having grown up in Siteki, eSwatini, Mzwa credits his early teachers for igniting his love of learning, a spark that has guided him through a global journey spanning Africa and North America.
Now a member of EwB’s South African Film Festival (SAFF) film selection committee in Canada, Mzwa has volunteered with the festival for the past three years. Proceeds from SAFF directly benefit EwB’s efforts, including initiatives in Cape Town’s Cape Flats townships and among First Nations communities in British Columbia. Through his epic walk, Mzwa not only tested his physical limits but also deepened his commitment to supporting young people in communities close to his heart.
