Enrichment Programmes

EwB provides opportunities for learning and leadership, care and psychosocial support for all its tutors and learners through a range of extra curricular activities.

Enrichment programmes increase learning, motivation and challenge.

Our offerings

Holiday Programmes: During school holidays, Grades 4 to 9 EwB learners participate in holiday programmes to learn maths, English and science by playing games, participating in sports, writing and performing plays and going on excursions.

Young Filmmakers Course: EwB partnered with Rising Tides to organize a Young Filmmakers course for EwB learners, tutors and site coordinators in South Africa. The initiative aimed to equip participants with essential technology, philosophy, and skills in documentary filmmaking. Students have opportunities to practice their skills with iPhones at our EwB sites.

Surfing Workshops: Every month students from the Cape Town region participate in a surfing workshop aimed at engaging, empowering and uplifting disadvantaged and at-risk youth. For many, it’s their first surfing experience.

This has been made possible through an ongoing collaboration between EwB, Surf without Borders and the 9Miles Project.

Life Skills Programmes: Offered on Saturdays. These include the skills needed for job applications such as resume writing and interviewing

Mentorship: EwB offers a mentoring programme for students currently enrolled in EwB’s after-school programme – connecting adult mentors in North America with mentees in South Africa. Mentors and mentees meet virtually weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on the needs of the mentees. Topics cover a wide range of areas such as school, careers, family issues, as well as how to improve communication skills.

Choir: Students from Fezeka Senior Secondary participate in the award-winning Fezeka School Choir under the leadership of Choir Master Monde Mdingi, whose salary is funded by EwB. The choir is a considerable source of pride for the individuals involved, as well as the school and community.
